A DofE group walking towards a hill

We run The Duke of Edinburgh's Award from our church. It’s a fun, active and engaging way of making friends, learning new skills and being outdoors.

What is DofE?

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a youth awards programme founded in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The programme includes a Bronze, Silver and Gold award which can take between one and four years to complete.

What do I have to do?

Each of the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards require an expedition (this is generally a walking expedition). With help from our DofE Leaders, you’ll plan your expedition route and learn new skills about maps, contour lines and compasses.

Alongside your expedition, you also need to set a goal to achieve for each of these categories: Volunteering. Physical. Skills. Expedition. It can be anything you’re interested in, from learning a new instrument to competing in a swimming gala. Each level of award requires a different minimum period of time to complete the goal in. Each section needs to be assessed by someone with knowledge of the chosen activities.

DofE fits well with our Christian aims of concern for the whole person; body, mind and spirit.

DofE has been part of life at the Welcome for over 30 years. Our current groups meet at the church on alternate Thursday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00pm and occasionally on Saturdays for training and practice walks.

If you want to learn new skills, make new friends and add to your achievements, email office@welcomebaptistchurch.co.uk.

Please note that you have to complete the award before your 25th birthday.
