Our history
The church building was opened in 1886 as the Gilbert Memorial Independent Baptist Chapel. Named after George Gilbert, the 'Sussex Apostle', who founded around 40 Baptist churches in East Sussex.
The building was later renamed Welcome Mission Hall by Esther Bell. She had a strong passion for being a welcoming haven within the local community. It was then registered for marriages in August 1909.
We've kept the Welcome part of the name as it sums up everything we're trying to do in our local community.
